 INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES conference is hosted by the biggest technical university in the Baltic states – Kaunas University of Technology. First organized as part of "Lithuanian  Science and Industry" conference series in 1995, in Kaunas, Lithuania, the event turned international in 2008 immediately attracting attention from academicians from all over the world. Although years have passed since the first iteration of the conference, the original mission remains asrelevant as ever. The 2011 iteration of the event will again be aimed at the promotion of multidisciplinary approaches and methods designed to further simplify the convergence of social and IT requirements as well as accompanying technologies.  And to further encourage such convergence, full length advanced industrial tutorials on Model Driven Development and Software Development Practices by well known practitioners are introduced into the conference agenda for the second time. We kindly invite our old academic friends as well as new contributors to join the debate sharing the knowledge on system analysis and design, hardware and computer networks as well as other relevant topics.

The official language of the conference will be English.

Contributions are limited to the research papers. The paper’s size should not exceed 5000 words and 8 pages (fee for extra pages 30 EUR per page). All accepted submissions will be published. However, the separate tome of selected papers will be submitted for the inclusion in the ISI Proceedings database. Conference proceedings are rated as Level 1 periodical publication in Norwegian system. Note that no more than two papers by the same author (written individually or with the coauthors) can be included in this particular volume. Other accepted papers will be published in a separate volume as research communications. The final versions of accepted papers must conform to the proceedings publication format. Review Process

Key Notes and Speakers:

Dr. Bernd Schenk

Bernd is a senior lecturer at the Martin Hilti Chair of Business Process Management (BPM) at the University of Liechtenstein. He is Executive Director of the Institute of Information Systems and Vice-President of the Liechtenstein Chapter of the Association for Information Systems (AIS). He participates in numerous research projects and has several years of experience in teaching and research in the area of IS. The core research interests of Bernd Schenk are Serviceoriented Architectures (SOA), Enterprise Resource Planning systems (ERP systems) and Business Process Management (BPM). Bernd is a lecturer and director of programme in the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programme in Information Systems and Business Process Management. He has several years of experience in the area of ERP systems both with consulting companies and industry. The Competence Center ERP summarizes activities of research and further education in the area of ERP systems. His work has been published in several refereed papers at internationally perceived conferences. 
Business Process Management Education: A Pathway for IT-Professionalism in Europe?

According to recent studies, there is a dramatic demand for IT education in Europe: EMPIRICA estimates an average of half a million IT professionals needed in Europe within the upcoming years. In December 2009, the so-called eSKILLS initiative was launched in order to stimulate measures in all member states. From an academic perspective, this development seems to call for an extension of educational programs in the field of information systems and computer science on the one side. On the other, this trend also underlines the necessity to maybe rethink such programs in light of in how far they actually meet the current business requirements. In this article the idea of Business Process Management (BPM) is presented. It will be discussed in how far a focus on BPM in IS education might contribute to IT professionalism in Europe. Prof. dr. Neil Maiden

Neil Maiden is Professor of Systems Engineering at City University London. He is and has been a principal and co-investigator on numerous UK EPSRC- and EU-funded research projects with a total value of €3 million. He has published over 150 peer-reviewed papers in academic journals, conferences and workshops proceedings, and heads the most successful requirements research group worldwide in terms of numbers of publications. He was Program Chair for the 12th IEEE International Conference on Requirements Engineering in Kyoto in 2004, and is both Associate Editor for Requirements and Editor of the IEEE Software’s Requirements column. Scenarios: Handling Requirements in Context

Scenarios and use cases have emerged as some of the most effective requirements discovery techniques. However techniques and software tools with which to make the use of scenarios more systematic and rigorous have proved elusive. This keynote presentation will review the challenges facing the more systematic use of scenarios in requirements processes, and report the results of research to develop and evaluate different scenario-based techniques and tools in large requirements projects. It highlights both current successes and future challenges for the use of scenarios in early software development processes.
Prof. dr. Raimundas Jasinevicius

Dr. Raimundas Jasinevicius (born in Kaunas 1936) - professor of Systemology a the Computer Engineering Department of the Kaunas University of Technology and the part time professor of Diplomacy and International Law at the Institute of Diplomacy and Political Science at the Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas, ambassador of Lithuania, member of the IEEE. His research fields are: System Theory, Neurocomputing, Character Recognition, Petri Nets, Fuzzy Expert Maps, Fuzzy Cognitive Maps Ttheory and Applications for International Relations, and e-Diplomacy. Raimundas Jasinevicius has been involved in few large scale projects: Concepts of the Information System for the Air Traffic Control in Lithuania Airspace; Computerized Police Information System for Ministry of Internal Affairs; Tempus project on Curricula Modernization in Information Technology at the Universities of Lithuania; SoC for SME project for 5 Nordic countries and 3 Baltic states. He was engaged as a researcher at the Cybernetics Center at the Genoa University (Italy, 1967), UCLA (USA, 1973), UMIST, City University and King's College (UK, 1976 and 1994). From 1994 till 2001 he was the ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to Denmark and Iceland. He has published 3 monographs, 1 referenced dictionary and more than 120 papers and articles on system theory as well as on international political affairs and humanitarian problems.
European Roadmap for Complex Systems Science

What sort of researches does EU need to-day, and what the EU expects from its own universities? Universities must meet new challenges of our contemporary life‘s complexity – they need new field called as Complex Systems Science (CSS). CSS appears in four ways: 1) better understanding of many complex systems; 2) better control of the complex socio-technical systems dynamics; 3) better understanding of the complex environment in which engineered systems exist (e.g. regulation, ethics, markets); 4) better understanding of the design, engineering and management process. Unfortunately there is a widening gap between the status of IT/IST in EU, on one side,and USA and Asia, on the other. What, if anything, could or should be done by EU to reduce the gap? EU should assign a high priority to the establishment of EU Center for Advanced Research, Development and Education in Information Technology and Intelligent Systems.

Overview and Aim

Industrial Tutorials is a special day at annual IT conference, which aims to bring practitioners from well-known Baltic IT companies for sharing their experience in applying modern information technologies and software development methods and tools. It is organized in a close collaboration between Kaunas University of Technology and No Magic Europe, which is located in Kaunas, Lithuania and is known as a vendor of worldwide popular UML modeling tool MagicDraw, developer of high quality custom software solutions, and provider of training and consultancy in software engineering and business process management.

The first edition of Industrial Tutorials at IT 2010 was very successful – it attracted a number of speakers from companies such as IBM, Microsoft, Oracle, Alna and others and was highly rated by the participants. We are looking forward to even better IT 2011 Industrial Tutorials session.

We invite practitioners to submit proposals for high quality practical presentations (45 minutes) at IT 2011 Industrial Tutorials on these topics:

Proposals should be oriented to presenting experience and lessons learnt in software development practice. Theoretical presentations will not be accepted.

Review Process

Tutorial proposals will be selected by the tutorial chair, under advice of the IT 2011 organization committee. The presenters of selected tutorials will be granted the industrial tutorials package for free. Conference Venue
The Conference will be held at Kaunas University of Technology, Kaunas, Lithuania.
Kaunas with only 360 thousand inhabitants is nevertheless one of the most significant cities of Lithuania. It is not only a city of old traditions, but also a large centre of business and industry. It can also lay claim to be a town of young people with over 40,000 students studying at one of eleven universities here.
Kaunas was always fated to play an important historical and cultural role in Lithuania. In 1408, Magdeburg rights were granted to the city of Kaunas by the privilege of Vytautas the Great. During the early 20th century Kaunas was the home of the Lithuanian Government and the capital of state. However, history tells us that even before this date, the city, situated at the confluence of the rivers Neris and Nemunas, experienced many periods of great prosperity and national importance.
It's hard to name the single most famous feature of Kaunas. From the historic 13th century Kaunas Castle to the romantic City Hall Square, from the macabre Devils' Museum to the galleries of art varying from classic to avant-garde - Kaunas offers something for everybody. The cosy and enigmatic Old Town of Kaunas extends into a vibrant Laisves avenue, where visitors can enjoy the mix of modern and traditional shops, cafes and bars.
Also basketball is synonymous with Kaunas not only because we held the very first official basketball game in Lithuania in 1922, but also because of the famous Zalgiris team and its international superstar Arvydas Sabonis.
If you like live music, look forward to concerts of the International Kaunas Jazz Festival (, which is taking place during the conference week.
